Surah 44
The Smoke
1. Ha Meem (ح م),
2. By the clarifying Book,
3. We have descended it on a bountiful/blessed night, that We have been warning,
4. On it [the night] every aim of sovereignty separates/rules [we read “يَفرق"],
5. An Aim from Us, that We have been messaging,
6. Compassion from your Lord, that is He the Hearer the Knower,
7. The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what’s between them, if you were in certainty,
8. No god but He, enlivens He and deadens, your Lord and the lord of your early forefathers,
9. Nay, they are in doubt, playful,
10. Await a day when the sky comes with clear smoke
11. Obscuring the [vision of the] people; this is severe suffering,
12. “Our Lord, do remove the suffering from Us, we are believers”,
13. Out of their reach is the remembrance; and a clarifying messenger did come to them,
14. Then they turned away from him and said: “an insane teacher” [we read “معلِّم"],
15. We are removers of the suffering by a little, [for] you are returning,
16. The day We hit our toughest hit: We are avengers/overturners,
[The vision of smoke engulfing and devouring the world has featured in a few Books and mythologies …
None of them are in my reach now, but COB has said before that the universe is cast in its own dark matter, where it is resumed, hence our use of the expression “it is iterated”,
An iteration is not a repeat of the same thing, but a continuation of it from where it left off, according to the same pattern,
So, it seems that when this event takes place: some souls are stuck in the universal activity and become a part of it, hence they have to witness it from within it,
COB has argued that the last time this has happened was around 12,000 years ago, when Atlantis sank and other cataclysms occurred and humanity was reborn in a new genesis that has persisted to the present,
But COB also sees that the universe is partly subjected to such death and rebirth, constantly, and this will be proven in a future time when the space will be explored by humans,
I hope the helplessness of the cosmic activity as it is alluded to is realised. The Ghita has pointed to it.]
17. And We have dazzled the people of the Pharaoh before them, and came to them an honourable messenger,
18. That deliver [yourselves] to/in me, O abiders in God, I am to you a trustworthy messenger,
19. And that be not haughty above God, I have come to you with decisive authority,
20. And that I take shelter in my Lord and your Lord, that you [do not] outcast/stone me,
[The verb “رجم" in Arabic has been understood to mean “to stone someone”,
And I guess a similar interpretation has been given in Hebrew to a verb of, most probably, the same root,
Both religions are perhaps the only religions which punish by stoning. And recently a supposed Islamic state issued a decree instating this primitive punishment,
The Hebrew people have abandoned it as far as we can notice, and we’re still waiting for Islamic scholars to follow suit,
The old Arabic dictionaries clearly say that the verb is meant to be used metaphorically as well, and even if the dictionaries didn’t say it: Islamic scholars should start thinking outside the contours of their primitiveness, if they want to progress …,
And the following verse confirms our advice and interpretation …]
21. And if you trust not me, just be on your own,
22. So he invoked his Lord that these are criminal people,
23. “Make the abiders in Me travel at night, you are being followed,
24. “And leave the sea [while] in recess, they are sunken soldiers,
[The verb that is used (رهى) points to a depression or a recess in the land, but the subject is the sea here,
Hence interpreters were quick to say that its usage here points to walking …
But this verse clearly supports COB’s recount of the events of that time, when a super low tide occurred and made it possible to cross the Red Sea at the shallow ends of it.]
25. How many a garden and a spring of water have they forsaken,
26. And vegetation and an honourable station,
27. And providence in which they rejoiced,
28. Thus We have bequeathed it to another people,
29. The heavens and the earth have not wept over them, and they were not looked,
30. And We have rescued the people of Israel from the demeaning suffering,
31. From the Pharaoh, he was haughty, of the extravagant ones,
32. And We have selected them by [their] knowledge over the worlds,
33. And We brought the verses to them in which there is decisive testing,
34. That those continue to say:
35. “It is none but our first death and we are not to be spread [again],
36. “Bring forth our fathers, if you were honest”,
37. Are they better, or the people of Noah in succession? and the people before them, we’ve destroyed them, they were criminal,
38. We have not created the heavens and the earth playingly,
39. We have not created them but by the Law, but most of them know not,
[One can’t but wonder: is the story being narrated twice …?
In COB’s reading, this is the same story, being viewed from two angles:
That of the Hebrew people, and that of the Israelis,
We have said before that the Israelis were the inhabitants of Midian, that is known today as Tel Amarna, in the south of Egypt,
Where Moses got his education from Akhenaten and his half-brother Joseph, who was living there for a great part of his life,
Hence the sequence of the narration supports COB’s vision of this critical period of history. More details can be found in Surah of Joseph (No. 12), and in our story of Prophet Joseph, both are on our website.
It is also noteworthy that the successors of the people of Noah were not believers in rebirth and the continuation of life,
Abrahamic religions which still deny this truth after so many Books have reminded them: are yet to admit it.]
40. That the day of separation is their all collective appointment,
41. The day when a master makes not a master unneedy of anything, and they are not supported,
42. Except those whom God has mercified, it is He the Exalted Compassionate,
43. That the tree of Zaqoom:
44. Is the feed of the wrong-doer,
45. Like lava boiling in the stomach,
46. Like the boiling of molten rock,
47. Take it and transport it to the level of the inferno,
48. Then pour upon its top from the suffering of the fire,
[Far from being the description of a torture chamber, where people are made to drink molten rock and metal: this is referring to the tree of potentiality, from which activity and karmic consequences are generated,
And how would a living being survive such a beverage, unless it is made resistant to it … in which case it will be enjoyed …!
In fact, all potential sensual pleasures are developed in such a way,
Out of curiosity people want to taste them,
Although the first attempt might be scary and painful: the sensual pleasures folded in the pain are very tempting,
And clever people train their minds to tolerate the pain in expectation of the pleasurable reward …
Thus they are sucked in …
But cleverer people want to get out of it … before it becomes imprinted on their psyches, and the reason they want to stay alive …]
49. : Forged. That Thou art the Exalted the Noblest [we read “دُقَّ إنك"],
50. That this is what you’ve been denying,
51. That the refuging ones are in a safe station,
52. In gardens and with eyes,
53. Dressed in Sundus and Istabraq, facing one another [with the eyes],
54. Thus We’ve paired them with the wandering eyes,
55. They invoke in it every joy, safely,
[Once again the description of a higher station of existence …
The essence of it is that this is a station of existence where one is united with one’s soul, the wandering eyes, free from the fetters of physical existence, where activity does not bear the karmic consequences of pleasure and pain …]
56. They experience no death in it, except the first death [before they got to this stage], and He protected them from the suffering of hell,
57. Elevation from your Lord, this is the great success,
58. And that so, We expressed it in your [the messenger’s] tongue, may they remember,
[Saying clearly that this station of existence cannot be described …, and that the provided description is limited by the language of the time …
And indeed, this is the limit of people’s understanding at the time …
Nothing can be witnessed: unless the mind has reached it,
But then, the mind wants to express it …,
This is the cycle of creation, preservation and destruction, as the Ghita puts it.]
59. So, be watchful [addressing the messenger], they are being watched
