Surah 63
The Hypocrites
1. When the hypocrites came to you, they said: “we witness that you are God’s messenger”, and God knows that you are His messenger, and God witnesses that the hypocrites are liars,
2. They took their faith as a frock [we read “جُبّة"], they barred [the people] from the Way of God that is what they were doing,
[This is indeed the answer to that faith, or Islam for that matter, is not an announcement that one makes to the people …
The heaven is unneeding of people’s announcements,
If people have acknowledged the Book or the messenger, it’s their own achievement. There’s no allegiance that people declare except to religions and political parties …
That’s why both parties in every conflict between Muslims: on each side: say that they witness god and the messenger …!
Worse still is when people are forced,
But of course, the hypocrites will say: “we don’t force anyone”, especially when their captives of war are surrounded by them …!
These are basic concepts that the followers of religions don’t get, and they won’t, so long as their intelligence and moral standards are still at the level of their pagan ancestors …]
3. This is because they believed, then they disbelieved, so it is [disbelief] imprinted on their hearts, they don’t reason,
4. If you [the messenger] saw them, their bodies/figures please you, and if they speak, you hear of their speech as though they are slabs of wood leaning [against walls], they reckon every cry to them [has to be from]: them the enemy; be cautious of them, God has fought them, how do they fake?
[By reading this last verse to understand that the Qur’an is telling the believers “they, as in everyone else, are the enemy”, Qur’anic interpreters have revealed the content of their minds: and the verse thus applied to them …!
Hence, anyone who addresses them, to debate them or show their errors to them: they must be enemy …
The Books never pointed the readers to any enemy, and the mention of the enemies of God is a matter for God, He didn’t appoint anyone to condemn people and wage wars on His behalf,
And “enemy” in the Qur’an and the Torah is the “transgressor”, the root of the word is from “عدا", which points to step over, to exclude, to override …, hence the extension of “to be enemy”,
The many verses that we’ve read before: all concur on this matter …]
5. And if you said to them: “come along, will beg forgiveness for you: God’s messenger”, they shook their heads, and you saw them pushing off, while they looked down [on you],
6. It is equal for them, whether you beg forgiveness for them or not beg forgiveness for them, God will not forgive them, that God guides not aberrant people,
[Because when consciousness has fallen down to a low level, forgiveness for errors will not help lift it up,
And if it is pushed to move upward, it will be confused and will perhaps panic, unknowing what to do,
It finds comfort in a low form of existence, where it finds its sources of sustenance and a reason for existence, and this is provided naturally,
Is this a reward or a punishment?
A high level of consciousness needs to be achieved to have empathy for those trapped in such a predicament, and a sense of sorrow and desire to help them …
Perhaps the human experiment … is about this realisation,
The experience of existence is enriched or diminished upon expansion of awareness and compassion,
When people make it their purpose of life to please a god or to abide by a mundane philosophy or a political ideology: seeking help and sustenance: they have set foot on a path of self-deprivation and suffering,
Having to fight physical laws with a limited knowledge of physical laws, and having to solicit help from pagan gods which hear none and see none …
And although Abrahamic gods compete with one another on goodness and forgiveness: effectively, they are same: creating people as believers and non-believers, and hence rewarding and punishing them …!
The search for a god outside oneself: however holy and forgiving this god may be: is by itself and an “aberration” and affixation …
Hence the following verses point to a stage of awareness, where little interest is invested in emotions of fear and anxiety over one’s own existence, when the Light of Existence has shined the way, nothing is left obscure or frightening …]
7. It is them who say: “expend not on those who are at the messenger’s, until they revoke [we read “ينقضوا"]”, and to God are the Vaults of the heavens and the earth, but the hypocrites discern not,
8. They say: “if we returned to the city [being the metaphorical or physical home of the believers], they will force out: the stronger ones: the weaker ones”; and to God is the Power, and to His messenger and the faithful ones, but the hypocrites know not,
9. O you who believe, be not distracted by your money, nor by your children: from the remembrance of God; whoever do [so], those are the losers,
10. Expend from what We’ve bestowed upon you [of mental, emotional and physical faculties], before death comes to each of you, he says: “if only you deferred me for a short term, so I believe [we read “فأُصدِّق
”], and I be one of the righteous ones”,
11. And God won’t defer a self if its fate has come, and God is All Informed about what you do
Surah 64
Mutual Eyeing [“ألتعايُن"]
1. Transcend in God what is in the heavens and what is in the earth, to him the Kingdom, and to Him the Sustenance, Capable of all things is He,
2. It is He who created you [the people], so some of you are distant and some of you are faithful, and God is of what you do All Seer,
[The wording of this verse is not suggesting that people are created kuffar or believers …,
So, here we are again having to jostle with the sensitive subject of freewill and predetermination,
To what extent does freewill go …?
The Ghita says that to each soul a duty is assigned, from the beginning,
“Duty”, again, as in this Qur’anic verse, is not suggestive of predetermined faith or disbelief …
But the Abrahamic religions' understanding of this verse and similar ones suggests that the creator creates arbitrarily, then punishes the ones that he created as disbelievers …: to put it briefly …: although they will use their every semantic skill to evade admitting it.
This dilemma can be overcome only by assuming total freewill,
The intellect, however, will immediately ask: so why would god create all the evil options and give humans the choice of taking them? and if you say he wants to test them, why would he want to test what he created, provided he is omniscient and all-encompassing, he shouldn’t have to do that …
The question of predetermination and freewill can never be answered with any degree of intellectual certainty,
But the dilemma is in one’s head only when a “god, world, man” trinity is assumed,
So long as a person perceive themselves as having come to a world without their choice, but rather by the will of a third-party god: the question will keep causing an anxiety to them,
This is why our translation of the Arabic word kafer (the plural being kuffar) has often been “distant ones”, and the root of the word does allow for this translation.
Disbelief, as in the messages and the messengers, can only be a result of being distant: from one’s own innateness,
Once the will to shorten the distance is present, and the distance is closing: the Source of Sustenance and causality is witnessed, and the clash between predeterminism and freewill fades away …
The intellect will, however, continue to ask: where did the will to shorten the distance come from: and the discussion is back to its starting point,
So I suggest that people make an effort to look for an answer beyond intellectual concepts,
I believe that every human being is endowed with this power, and that they just have to use it and enhance it …
When one comes back to the daily challenges of the world, however: the state of awareness is fogged by the physical laws of survival …
That’s why “prayers”, “sabbath”, meditation … have been prescribed as regular activities, or rather withdrawal therefrom: so that the remembrance doesn’t fade, even in the most pressing of circumstances,
This inspires virtuous action or inaction, virtuous speech … even if a display of urgency and resolve are seen as anger …
On the Way: the traveler cares very little about how others perceive them, what’s most important to them is what they’re witnessing along the Way,
However treacherous and arduous the Way might be, the traveler is just enjoying their experience of existence …
As for those who choose to silence all the questions and go by the beliefs and traditions of their societies …: well, those will have to acquire the mental and moral skills to take whatever come, happily, without much objection or want,
Otherwise, the suffering in the distance is multiplied,
There are a number of teachers and schools of thought which offer lessons in such skills,
Some can be helpful, some are just a lure into more objection and want, or into a trap in a low form of existence, embellished with hollow words of peace, love and harmony … ]
3. Created He the heavens and the earth by the Law, and illustrated He you and bettered your images, and to Him is the becoming,
4. Knows He what is in the heavens and the earth, and knows He what you secret and what you announce, and God is the Knower of the identity in emergence [alternatively the identity in the chest],
5. Hasn’t it come to you: the news of them who distanced, from before, they hence experienced the calamity of their aim, and for them is painful suffering,
6. That is because they used to come to them their messengers with evidence, they said: “humans like ourselves guiding us?”, they hence distanced and turned away, and God unneeded [them], God is Unneeding Thankworthy,
[Another sensitive subject is behind the lines in this last verse …
The illusion of independence and hence "freewill": is perhaps the most amazing miracle of existence,
Whether the Creator wants people to bewilder in it: for them to learn about it and employ it to their benefit and pleasure: or whether this whole eventuality was the result of going too far, and should be stopped …: is again a question that the intellect can never answer with any degree of certainty,
From a materialistic perspective, if the whole world was aimless, started by itself from a super compact ball of energy: the concept can drive the world to implode upon allowing competing conscious human powers: to fight each other to complete mutual annihilation …
Evidence of quasi total destruction of civilisation is starting to emerge, and once more convincing evidence is uncovered: the issue should be put to the world’s warring ideologies and powers: to take a step back, each for their own good at least,
So, the verse is saying that if the belief in total independence is so strong: the assumed independence will destroy itself by the Law of the world,
The Creator is unneeding of the whole of the cosmic eventuality, and until human consciousness and freewill are employed for the benefit of all: since in all its aspects of opposing powers it is the manifestation of one cosmic eventuality … …
Cooperation between the peoples of the world as nations and individuals: becomes thus a universal human law, with competition and rivalry being one small facet of its creative source of power, guided by rational thinking, and by the employment of the faculty of compassion endowed equally upon all humans,
The apparent competition of forces and powers in nature: those work together for the sake of the sustenance of all of them, it’s only human consciousness that has gone way too far that is completely blinded to this reality,
In nature, species vanish by superfluity or necessity,
Human needs and ideologies submit to the same law. If they take the universal aim of existence in their own hands, it is a transgression,
The cosmic eventuality will write transgressing consciousness off, by the power of its ubiquity.]
7. They claimed, those who distanced, that they won’t be remitted [in the world], say: “nay, by my Lord you will be remitted, then you will be told of what you did, and this is to God facile,
8. “Hence, believe in God and His messenger, and the Light that We’ve dropped, and God is in what you do the Expert,
9. “The day when He gathers you to the day of the gathering, that is the day of mutual eyeing, and he who trusts in God and does good, overlooks He his misdeeds, and ushers him in gardens, the days stream underneath them, in them they are eternal, this is the great success”,
[I find it equally amazing that the many branches of Abrahamic religions: although they all say loud and clearly that at the end of days people will face their Creator, and in the Qur’an it is explicitly said that He will look them …, also in the Hikmah …: have all passed this declaration totally oblivious and unnoticing, and took it lightly and derisively, and still do as we read it correctly to them …, and perhaps can’t even imagine why mutual eyeing is worthy of a mention …
This speaks volumes about their all rank of consciousness,
Be not deceived by the lofty titles they have awarded themselves, and their supposed supernatural tribal origins,
The Law is indeed unneeding …]
10. And those who falsified Our verses: those are the dwellers of the fire, eternal in it, and low-down is [such] a becoming,
[Verses of all the Books including the Qur’an have been read or interpreted falsely …, and the state of total insecurity and anarchy today: is not a blessing from a god and an opportunity for salvation or an entry to a paradise …
But indeed the hell from which all the Books have been warning …
Hence the next verse …]
11. None of an incident strikes: except by God’s permission, and he who trusts in God: guides He his heart, and God is of everything Knower,
12. And do obey God and do obey the messenger, and if you turn away: that so, upon Our messenger is only the clear announcement,
13. God, no god but He, and upon God may the faithful rely,
14. O you who believe, that among your spouses and children are transgressors to you, be warned of them, and if you pardon and forget and forgive: that God is Forgiving Compassionate,
15. That so, your money and your children are an amazement, and God has the great reward,
16. Do take refuge in God so long as you can, and listen and obey, and dispense good [things] from yourselves, and he who is guarded from his own self’s avarice: those are the achievers,
[The commandment to listen and to obey that has featured a few times: is not to listen and to obey the commandments of the clergy of religions and the self-proclaimed spiritual teachers, blindly …
Unfortunately, the markets are inundated with spiritual products …: methods of liberation and happiness, eternal health and wealth, solutions to many problems …
All capitalising on the vulnerability of the human psyche, and its desperate need for guidance, at a time of great insecurity and confusion in the world, across all cultures and religions …
I wish that a list of warnings can be compiled, providing the signs of ill-practices …
But I guess, as a general rule, one should avoid teachers who make it their profession to teach, although they solicit money as a donation rather than issuing a bill for their service, and those who want to promote one Book or one religion or a branch thereof over others, and those who promise a lot … or have some theories about human origins and connections to alien civilisations …, and those who claim supernatural connections and powers …
There’s only a need for rational thinking in the world nowadays, and a feeling of connection with all humans and the world and all the living beings in it …
What is driving the world to the brink of a total collapse: are the many divisions and the world certainly doesn’t need more of them …
The listening and the obeying should be directed primarily to one’s own inner guidance,
This can reach everyone, if one trusts …
Of course, the road to tuning to it is not easy, especially after it being closed off in one’s own head for too long, by beliefs, false hopes and grudges …]
17. If you credit God a good credit, multiplies it He to you, and forgives you, God is Thankful, Kind,
18. The Knower of the unseen and the witness, the Exalted the Sovereign
